About Spofford

Spofford is a Kinney County city at the junction of State Highway 131 and Farm Road 1572, built around a railroad depot established in 1882. The Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway split here toward Eagle Pass and Langtry, and C. K. Spofford added a hotel and store beside the tracks. The community became Kinney County's principal cattle-shipping point, with ranching, churches, a school, and depot offices shaping its mid-century center. The city footprint remains compact and all land along the rail corridor.
