About St. Augustine
St. Augustine is the county seat of St. Johns County and the oldest continuously occupied European-founded city in the United States. Before the Spanish arrived in 1565, the area was home to Timucua communities along the waterways of northeast Florida. Today St. Augustine combines Spanish colonial sites, Flagler-era architecture, Flagler College, tourism, and a working local community behind the historic district. It feels deeply historic but still lived-in, with beaches, brick streets, and centuries of layered Florida history.
