About St. Helens
St. Helens is a Columbia River city and the county seat of Columbia County, northwest of Portland. It was established as a river port, and the Lewis and Clark Expedition passed through and camped in the area on November 5, 1805. That river history still gives the city its shape: a working waterfront, old-town streets above the Columbia, and a strong connection to shipping, timber country, and the route between Portland and the lower river communities.
