St. James, NY

St. James is a hamlet and census-designated place in Suffolk County, New York, within the Town of Smithtown. It sits near Head of the Harbor and Stony Brook Harbor, with Stony Brook University's main campus immediately to the east. In the early twentieth century, St. James was a fashionable vacation spot for stage and screen figures, giving the hamlet a bit of old Long Island glamour. Today it is residential, fully within the Smithtown Central School District, and closely tied to the North Shore communities around it.
