About St. Joseph

St. Joseph is a Lawrence County city on a broad ridge between the Shoal Creek and Bluewater Creek valleys. German Catholic immigrants began settling the area in the early 1870s through the Cincinnati Homestead Association, and St. Joseph Catholic Church grew with that community. Little Bluewater Creek runs through the city, giving the ridge-top settlement a direct connection to the valley below.

St. Joseph Catholic Church remains the clearest local institution, linking the city to the German Catholic settlement history still remembered across Lawrence County. The city sits south of Lawrenceburg in a rural network of farms, creeks, and small roads, with county services concentrated in the larger county seat. The parish calendar gives the ridge a continuing center for local gatherings. Parish grounds, local civic offices, and the roads along Little Bluewater Creek give the small city its own center. St. Joseph is a Tennessee city whose map is shaped by a parish, a ridge, and two creek valleys.
