About St. Michael
St. Michael is a city in the Nome Census Area, Alaska, situated on the east side of St. Michael Island at the southeastern end of Norton Sound. Founded in 1833 as Redoubt St. Michael by the Russian-American Company, the trading post was named after the archangel Michael and served as a key commercial hub with the Yup'ik people of the region. With a population of 456 at the 2020 census, the city is served by Andrews School, a pre-K through 12 campus operated by the Bering Strait School District.
