Every road trip to or from St. Simons funnels through one piece of infrastructure. Glynn County describes the F.J. Torras Causeway as the island's only road access and says it carries more than 32,000 vehicles a day; a current gateway project is intended to ease congestion where the causeway meets Demere Road, Kings Way, and Sea Island Road. East Beach provides public parking, restrooms, seasonal concessions, and mats extending ADA access onto the sand. Lifeguards cover the stretch between Massengale and Coast Guard beach during set summer hours, and seasonal daytime limits apply to dogs along the main beach. Near the pier, Neptune Park combines beach access with picnic space under old-growth oaks, two playgrounds, a seasonal lifeguarded pool, miniature golf, and the St. Simons Island Public Library.

Farther north, Fort Frederica National Monument preserves the remains of the fortified town James Oglethorpe established in 1736. Rangers offer walking tours, while roughly two miles of grass and sand trails cross the surrounding woods and marsh edge; the park cautions that summer heat, wet ground, and biting insects can make those trails less comfortable. The site also interprets history beyond the colonial fort. It joined the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom in 2023 for documented stories including escape routes toward Spanish Florida and a Civil War contraband community on the island. Current county projects are adding and replacing shared paths on St. Simons to close gaps in the walking and bicycling network.
