Stafford, historically known as Stafford Courthouse, is a census-designated place and the county seat of Stafford County, Virginia. Situated sixty miles north of Richmond and immediately south of Marine Corps Base Quantico, the community of approximately 5,800 is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 1 and Courthouse Road. The area has deep colonial roots, notably serving as the site where Pocahontas was abducted by English Captain Samuel Argall in 1613.
