Stanley, KY

Stanley is a Daviess County community on U.S. 60 about nine miles west of Owensboro. The place grew around the Louisville and Texas Railroad, shifting from a rail stop into a small service town for farms along the Ohio and Green River bottoms. A 1908 court proceeding ended its status as a corporate town, but Stanley's name stayed on the map. Today the clue is in the road itself: a western Owensboro community whose older story is tied to rails, river-bottom agriculture, and the people who supplied both.
