Stanton, TN

Stanton's story starts with the Memphis and Ohio Railroad, which reached a depot on Joseph B. Stanton's land in the 1830s. The earlier village of Wesley stood four miles east; after businesses, churches, and the school moved to the depot in 1856, Wesley faded and Stanton became the community people recognized. The town received its current charter in 1927 and remains tied to Haywood County's farm country.

Stanton is now dealing with a much larger future. The town's planning materials point to Ford and SK On's BlueOval City, a 3,600-acre manufacturing complex nearby, as a force likely to bring jobs, housing, retail, and office demand.
