Stanwood, WA

Stanwood has a unique layout that newcomers notice right away: it essentially has two distinct historic downtowns. Long before European settlement, the Stillaguamish people lived along the river delta. In the late 1800s, two separate settlements formed about a mile apart, one serving river traffic and the other built along the Great Northern Railway. Though they officially merged into a single city in 1960, you will still find locals referring to the west and east sides of town, each featuring its own collection of independent shops, cafes, and historic storefronts.

Every summer, locals turn out for the Stanwood-Camano Community Fair, a favorite tradition packed with livestock shows, handmade crafts, and carnival rides.
