About Steinhatchee
Steinhatchee is a Gulf coastal community in southern Taylor County, built around the river that carries its name toward the Gulf. Cedar logging, commercial fishing, crabbing, shrimping, and scalloping all belong to the local story, and the waterfront still gives the place its working shape. Jena sits across the river in Dixie County, while Perry is the county seat farther north. Steinhatchee is Florida's Big Bend in a low-lying river-and-Gulf shape, with recent storms now part of the town's memory too.
