About Stillman Valley
Stillman Valley is an Ogle County village in the Rock River basin, east of Byron and west of Davis Junction. Its name comes from Stillman Creek, which carries the memory of Major Isaiah Stillman's 1832 defeat in the first engagement of the Black Hawk War. The village grew in 1875 around rail lines that gave surrounding farmers a place to send grain, and one rail link plus Route 72 still mark the map. A battle monument south of the village keeps the name from being just a road sign. Stillman Valley is north-central Illinois in a creek-and-railroad story.
