About Stockbridge

Stockbridge is an Ingham County village within Stockbridge Township, about 36 miles southeast of Lansing. David Rogers and his family were among the first settlers, arriving in 1834 with a portable house they had built farther east and hauled by wagon to Michigan. The village was platted soon afterward, and the town square’s 1892 Town Hall still stands as the place’s clearest old civic marker; the building has served as an opera house as well as a municipal hall. Stockbridge is a mid-Michigan village with a wagon-borne beginning, a preserved square, and a town hall that still carries an unusually big stage history.
