Stockton, NJ

Stockton is a Hunterdon County borough on the Delaware River, a place where a ferry, canal, railroad, mills, and bridge all stacked their eras on the same riverbank. It began as Reading Ferry, became Howell's Ferry, then Centre Bridge Station, and finally Stockton after the railroad and post office arrived in 1851; the name honors Senator Robert F. Stockton, a canal backer. Prallsville Mills preserves the older mill settlement, while the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park brings a towpath and canal history through town.
