Stony Creek Mills, PA

Stony Creek Mills is a Berks County census-designated place five miles east of Reading, divided between Lower Alsace and Exeter townships. Friedensburg Road is the main line through the community, with Bethany Lutheran Church and older houses marking the village core. Stony Creek and its mill sites provide the name and the shape; this is a creekside mill settlement that grew into a residential place, not an independent borough.

The industrial story is unusually clear. Louis Kraemer & Co. established Stony Creek Mills in 1864 to make woolen goods, and the mill complex left behind more than a name: historic houses, a mill race, a former gristmill later used as a textile mill, and buildings along Kraemer Lane and Friedensburg Road. The community sits close enough to Reading for city errands but still reads like one of the small industrial villages scattered through Berks County. For bearings, use Reading to the west, Friedensburg Road through the middle, and Stony Creek’s old woolen-mill footprint as the local clue.
