Stowell, TX

Stowell is a Chambers County community just south of Winnie and east of the Jefferson County line, with Highway 124 doing most of the orienting. The community grew along the Gulf and Interstate Railway in the 1890s and took its name from railroad engineer H. C. Stowell. The coast is never far in the local map: the highway runs north to I-10 and south toward High Island and the Gulf. Stowell shares the East Chambers school and hospital district with Winnie, making this a two-community corner of the upper Texas coast.
