Strawberry occupies a hilly peninsula on Richardson Bay between Highway 101 and the western edge of Tiburon. Its Mill Valley mailing address can blur the identity, but Strawberry is an unincorporated Marin County community with its own census boundaries and recreation district. Water surrounds the peninsula on three sides, and short streets climb from East Strawberry Drive and Reed Boulevard toward houses with bay and Mount Tamalpais views. Apartment and condominium clusters sit near the highway and former seminary lands, while the interior is largely residential. Highway 101 creates a hard western edge and carries most longer trips toward San Francisco or central Marin.

Most errands converge at Strawberry Village, the shopping center beside Reed Boulevard and the Redwood Highway frontage road. Groceries, restaurants, services, bus stops, and nearby housing make this the practical center even though it sits beside freeway ramps instead of a traditional main street. The community's first subdivision appeared in 1947, and rapid postwar building transformed the peninsula from lightly developed land into a close-in suburb. That growth produced an enduring split between hillside and shoreline homes, larger multifamily sites, the commercial center, and natural or tidal edges around Richardson Bay. Current county housing plans identify both Strawberry Village and nearby frontage-road parcels for additional homes, so the freeway-side center is also where future change is most likely to be visible.

The Strawberry Recreation District supplies the local civic core that an incorporated town government otherwise might provide. Formed in 1949, it operates a waterfront recreation center, gymnasium, pool, athletic fields, picnic grounds, and lighted tennis and pickleball courts on East Strawberry Drive. Classes, camps, swim programs, meetings, and elections give the site a year-round role beyond recreation. Marin Transit Route 219 links Strawberry Village with Tiburon and the Seminary area, while Route 17 stops near Highway 101 on its run between San Rafael, Mill Valley, Marin City, and Sausalito. The bay is always close, but daily movement still funnels through a few roads and the freeway interchange; Strawberry feels at once like a small peninsula community and a strategically placed part of the larger Marin commute.
