Strodes Mills, PA

Strodes Mills is a Mifflin County community along U.S. 22 and U.S. 522 between McVeytown and Lewistown, with roads crossing Oliver and Granville townships. The location puts it in the middle of a corridor shaped by turnpikes, canals, railroads, and the Juniata Valley's old iron works. It is a crossroads community instead of a borough, with Lewistown supplying the county seat services a few miles to the northeast.

The most distinctive landmark is the Three Locks site near Strodes Run. Three adjacent locks and their stonework survive from the Pennsylvania Canal's Juniata Division, an unusual piece of transportation history preserved beside the highway. A nearby marker for Juniata Iron points to the charcoal furnaces and forges that once worked along the county's streams. State Game Lands 113 adds a large stretch of wooded country near the community, while Route 22/522 carries present-day traffic toward Lewistown and McVeytown. Strodes Mills is a small roadside settlement with canal masonry, iron-country remnants, and a modern highway doing the work the old waterway once did.
