Stronghurst, IL

Stronghurst is a Henderson County village in southern Illinois, set among the rich farm country between Burlington, Iowa, and western Illinois towns. Illinois Route 94 runs through the village, leading north to Biggsville and south toward La Harpe, while Burlington is about fifteen miles northwest. The community was platted in November 1887 on land purchased by the Santa Fe Railroad, and the rail connection helped make it a business center for the southern part of the county. Illinois State Archives lists the village's incorporation in 1894.

West Central Community Unit School District 235 serves Henderson County, with the junior high campus in Stronghurst and other schools in Biggsville and nearby communities. Village Hall handles local government, and the park has a shelter house, playground, sports space, and Doc Pogue Memorial Spray Park. Corn, soybeans, small grain, pasture, and woodland fill the surrounding Stronghurst soil series, so agriculture still sits just beyond the village streets.
