About Sulphur

Sulphur is a Calcasieu Parish city in southwest Louisiana, part of the Lake Charles area and close to the Sabine River region. Its name comes from the sulfur mines worked in the area in the early 1900s, a direct industrial origin that still fits this corner of refinery-and-plant Louisiana. The city also has a strong parks system, including Frasch Park, North Frasch Park, SPAR Waterpark, and The Grove at Heritage Square. Sulphur feels sturdy, humid, and practical, with recreation built around working Gulf Coast life.
