About Sultana

Sultana is a compact Tulare County community about two and a half miles east of Dinuba, with its own post office and a place in the Monson-Sultana school story. Its early shape came from the railroad: the Santa Fe line reached the area in 1896, and Sultana grew as a shipping point surrounded by orchards and vineyards. Historical accounts mention fresh and dried fruit, raisins, and watermelons moving out from the settlement. Today the name still appears alongside Monson and Dinuba in local school and newspaper coverage, which is probably the best way to understand the place—small on the map, but part of a connected agricultural district in the eastern San Joaquin Valley.
