Summit, AR

Summit is a city in central Marion County, Arkansas, immediately north of Yellville and separated from the county seat by Division Street. The 2020 census counted 544 residents. Arkansas Highway 14 runs along Main Street, connecting Summit south to Yellville and northwest toward Lead Hill. The city sits at about 860 feet, a little higher than Yellville, with the White River Railway corridor and the Ozark hills setting the scale.

Summit grew around the White River Railway, whose depot and rail line reached the north side of Yellville by 1904. A post office opened in 1905, and the city incorporated in 1917. A 1906 church building served four congregations, a public school, the city council, and local voters under one roof. The railway shipped farm products, timber, lead, and zinc, while Bull Shoals Lake and the White and Buffalo Rivers later widened the area’s recreation map. Summit remains tied to Yellville schools and services, but its own railroad beginning is still visible in the town’s name and layout.
