About Summit

Summit is a Pike County town that grew beside the Illinois Central Railroad, named for the supposed high point between New Orleans and Jackson, Tennessee. Nearby Brookhaven later claimed that distinction, but the railroad name stayed. The depot and tracks made Summit a rail town; today the town’s schools connect to McComb and North Pike districts, and Southwest Mississippi Community College serves the wider county. Summit is a southwest Mississippi place whose name began as a railroad guess and stuck to the town.
