About Sun City
Sun City is a Barber County city on the Medicine Lodge River near the confluence with Turkey Creek. It was plotted in 1872 and settled in 1873, and its post office history begins in 1873. Gypsum deposits found along the Medicine River during Santa Fe railroad construction led to a plaster company in Sun City in 1891; production later continued under National Gypsum. River settlement, rail-era industry, and the gypsum works give the city a clear local history.
