Sunfield, MI

Sunfield is an Eaton County village of 518 residents in the 2020 census, located within Sunfield Township along Michigan Highway 43. The post office opened in 1855, and the village incorporated in 1899. Sunfield Township dates to 1842 and takes its name from the sunlit fields and rolling farmland around its roads. The village sits northwest of Lansing, with a small center shaped by Main Street, the highway, and farm lanes feeding in from the township.

The Sunfield Historical Museum on Main Street keeps early settlement and local artifacts close to the center. The annual Farmer's Picnic in August brings games, food, ball tournaments, and a parade-style day to the calendar. Sunfield Township also includes smaller named places such as Woodbury, Shaytown, Little Venice, and Bismark. The village's rural map remains easy to read: highway through the center, fields at the edges, and township roads carrying people toward Eaton County's larger communities.
