About Sunrise
Sunrise is a tiny census-designated place on the south shore of Turnagain Arm in Alaska's Kenai Peninsula Borough. It began in the 1890s as a supply center for gold rush miners, and that short boom left enough history for the area to be recognized as a historic district. Today the population is extremely small, but the setting is memorable: Cook Inlet water, mountain slopes, old mining history, and the road corridor between Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula.
