About Surfside Beach

Surfside Beach is a Brazoria County city on Follet’s Island, with the Gulf of Mexico on one side, the Intracoastal Waterway on another, and Freeport Harbor at the southwest edge. The place carries the older Velasco story: Fort Velasco stood near present-day City Hall, and the Treaty of Velasco was signed nearby on May 14, 1836, after the Texas Revolution. Bluewater Highway runs the length of town. Surfside Beach is the Texas coast in a compact read—barrier island, working water, beach road, and revolution-era history.
