Founded in 1935 to avoid being absorbed into Miami Beach, the town still operates its own dedicated police department, parks, and local municipal services. That tight-knit civic pride runs deep, reinforced by the community's shared resilience following the tragic 2021 Champlain Towers South collapse near the southern border.
