About Swall Meadows
Swall Meadows is a Mono County census-designated place on the Sherwin Grade below Wheeler Crest, between the Owens Valley and the eastern Sierra. The area was first known as Sherwin Meadow; James Sherwin homesteaded it for Jeffrey pine timber, hauling lumber down to a mill in Round Valley. Today the community is served by the volunteer Wheeler Crest Fire Department, and the surrounding meadow lies along a mule-deer migration route. Swall Meadows is an Eastern Sierra place of high desert, pine, old wagon roads, and the Wheeler Crest.
