About Swedesburg
Swedesburg is one of Upper Merion Township’s historic villages, sitting in the township’s older Schuylkill River corridor. Swedish settlers helped shape Upper Merion, and by the 1700s Swedesburg had an early school near Old Swedes Church. The village later sat beside riverfront quarries, rail lines, a canal, and shops that made this part of Upper Merion a working landscape. Valley Forge National Historical Park occupies the township’s western side, while King of Prussia supplies the modern regional landmark. The local shorthand is old Swedish settlement, river industry, Valley Forge, and a village name that belongs to Upper Merion’s larger map.
