Sylvan Beach, NY

Sylvan Beach is a Oneida County village on the eastern shore of Oneida Lake, 22 miles west of downtown Rome. The 2020 census counted 890 residents. The village's shoreline is also a navigation and recreation edge: Fish Creek and the Erie Canal connect the lake to the wider water system, and the community grew in the 1870s as hotels, cottages, and amusement parks followed the waterfront. The resort label is old, but the lake still determines the street pattern and seasonal rhythm. The village office and waterfront planning sit at the same shoreline.

Today the village's public map includes a mile-long beach and picnic area, a bandstand, marinas, restaurants, and the historic Sylvan Beach Amusement Park. Summer events and live entertainment remain part of the village calendar, while the state-approved Local Waterfront Revitalization Program focuses on Oneida Lake, Fish Creek, and the Erie Canal. Sylvan Beach is a small municipality organized around public shoreline, private cottages, boats, and an amusement park that keeps the older resort history visible.
