Tabor has a fascinating history that sets it apart from most quiet farming communities. Founded in the 1850s by anti-slavery settlers, the town served as an active station on the Underground Railroad. John Todd, a local minister and abolitionist, sheltered freedom seekers and stored supplies in his home, which still stands as the Todd House Museum on Park Street. That heritage gives the town a unique character, reflected in its historic district and shaded residential streets.

Today, Tabor offers a comfortable small-town rhythm in southwest Iowa, positioned along Highway 275 for an easy drive toward Council Bluffs and Omaha. Local kids attend the Fremont-Mills Community School District, and community ties run deep. Every June, residents come together for the Farmers and Merchants Picnic, a tradition that dates back to 1931, alongside seasonal farmers markets and winter holiday celebrations. It makes for a peaceful, welcoming town with strong roots and plenty of open space.
