About Takilma

Takilma is tucked into Josephine County's Illinois River Valley, about ten miles south of Cave Junction along the East Fork. The place grew out of mining and timber country near the old Waldo townsite, but its modern identity is more communal: the Takilma Community Association holds 19 acres for local use, the Dome School operates as a parent cooperative, and the valley has long attracted artists and small, independent projects. The river and nearby forest set the physical boundaries, while wildfire planning and shared services are part of everyday life. Takilma is not a conventional town center; it is a scattered Oregon community held together by the people who keep its institutions running.
