About Tavares

Tavares is the county seat of Lake County, set on an isthmus between Lake Eustis and Lake Dora. That water geography is central to the city's identity, and Tavares has leaned into it with a seaplane-friendly downtown and lakefront civic life. The Union Congregational Church, organized in 1885 and completed in 1888 on donated land, was the first church in town. Tavares feels like a small Florida county seat where government, lakes, boating, and old downtown blocks all meet.
