About Taylor
Taylor is a Williamson County city northeast of Austin, founded around the arrival of the International-Great Northern Railroad in the 1870s. Rail and farmland shaped the older town, while water from the San Gabriel River and local schools helped support its growth. Taylor is also known in Central Texas for barbecue, older brick downtown blocks, and a mix of Czech, German, and Black history. It now sits close enough to Austin's expanding orbit to feel both historic and newly pressured by growth.
