Teller, AK

Teller is a remote coastal village sitting about 72 miles northwest of Nome on a narrow spit between Port Clarence Bay and Grantley Harbor. Unlike most isolated communities in western Alaska, Teller connects to Nome by a seasonal gravel road, making it drivable roughly from May through September. The rest of the year, residents rely on short bush flights. Everyday life centers on the local K-12 school, subsistence hunting and fishing, and a handful of basic services like two general stores, a laundromat, and local cabs. There are no banks, restaurants, or hotels in town, so living here takes real self-reliance, careful planning, and an appreciation for a quiet, close-knit way of life.
