About Terry

Terry was first settled in 1811 and formally established in 1867 when the railroad came through Hinds County. That rail line is still the best way to understand the town’s location: Terry sits along I-55 about 15 miles southwest of Jackson, with the highway following the same broad pull toward the capital. The town center carries a bronze plaque about its founding, while the old depot story remains part of Terry’s railroad memory. Terry High School and the Hinds County school system serve the local area. The quick local read is a railroad town turned highway town, close to Jackson but still organized around its own small center.
