Terrytown, NE

Terrytown is a Scotts Bluff County city on the North Platte River, positioned between Scottsbluff and Gering. The 2020 census counted 1,057 residents, and the city belongs to the Scottsbluff micropolitan area. Terry Carpenter founded Terrytown in 1949, building a new community on the river side of the two older cities. The result is a place whose boundaries are local but whose daily map is shared with the wider North Platte Valley. The river plain and nearby farm roads remain part of the setting.

The river does more than mark Terrytown’s edge. It separates the city from parts of Scottsbluff and Gering while the three communities have grown into one connected urban area. Gering Public Schools serves Terrytown students, and nearby roads carry residents into the larger valley for work, shopping, and county services. Terrytown remains its own city, but its story is about connection: a postwar town founded by a local businessman, placed beside the river, and folded into the growing relationship between Scottsbluff and Gering.
