Thompsontown, PA

Thompsontown is a Juniata County borough founded in 1755 by William Thompson, set in the eastern part of the county among roads that lead toward the Juniata Valley. The borough is surrounded by Delaware Township, and its present-day civic address is still a simple one: Mill Street, a borough building, and a calendar of council meetings. The old settlement date still shapes the borough's sense of place. Council meetings now take place in the new borough building on Mill Street, while the church and creek keep the oldest part of town legible. The surrounding roads still point residents toward Mifflintown and the larger Juniata Valley for work and shopping.

Church of the Nativity and St. Stephen keeps the county's oldest Episcopal church story in town. Services in the area were recorded in 1824, and the present church site sits at the southern end of Second Street beside Little Buffalo Creek. Thompsontown remains a small river-valley borough where an old church, a working municipal office, and surrounding farm roads give the town its scale.
