Thornhill, KY

Thornhill is a home rule-class city in northeastern Jefferson County, about one mile northeast of Northfield and eight miles northeast of downtown Louisville. Kentucky Route 22, also called Brownsboro Road, forms the southern boundary of the 0.12-square-kilometer city. The place is small enough that the route and the neighboring Louisville-area communities do most of the orienting. A short drive can move from Thornhill's municipal line into the larger Louisville map, but the city's name remains fixed to this narrow stretch near Brownsboro Road.

Kentucky records Thornhill as an active home rule city incorporated on November 18, 1976, with a mayor-council form of government. The state's municipal directory lists City Hall at 2323 Branning Road and identifies the mayor, council members, treasurer, and clerk. Brownsboro Road carries the larger Louisville area's traffic and services past the southern edge, while Thornhill keeps its own name and civic paperwork on the smaller side of the map. It is a very small city, but not an anonymous one: the road, address, and municipal line are all close together.
