Three Bridges, NJ

Three Bridges is a Hunterdon County census-designated place inside Readington Township, stretched along the South Branch Raritan River. The 2020 census counted 321 residents. Its name comes from the three original bridges that crossed the river, and the railroad made the little settlement a true crossroads: the Central Railroad of New Jersey's South Branch line still runs through town, now part of the Black River & Western system. Farmers John Vlerebone and Harriet Foster Cline were early landowners, and the tracks remain part of the visual identity. Today, the river and the rails do most of the local orientation.

Black River & Western freight trains connect Three Bridges to the wider Hunterdon network, while passenger excursions bring old-fashioned railroading through the valley on select days. Flemington is just down the line, and the roads toward Clinton, Whitehouse Station, and the Raritan valley keep the town tied to nearby errands.
