Thurmont is a town in Frederick County, Maryland, situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains along U.S. Route 15. Originally incorporated as Mechanicstown in 1751, the town was renamed Thurmont in 1894 to prevent confusion with similarly named communities in neighboring states.
