Tiger, GA

Tiger is a Rabun County town in the northeast corner of Georgia, a few miles west of the South Carolina line and south of North Carolina. The 2020 census counted 574 residents. The town sits at about 1,962 feet, with wooded hilltops rising higher around it, and the surrounding roads climb through the Blue Ridge country. Tiger incorporated in 1904, while local tradition offers two explanations for the name: a connection to Cherokee chief Tiger Tail or the cry of panthers in the hills.

Tiger’s modern map brings together schools, mountain businesses, and long-running local attractions. Rabun County’s high, middle, elementary, and primary schools are nearby, as are the Tiger Drive-In, Goats on the Roof, Tiger Mountain Vineyards, and Stonewall Creek Vineyards. The town lies close to the county’s main routes but keeps a smaller mountain scale, with the former South Rabun Elementary building now housing county education offices. Tiger is a place where a school center, old name legends, vineyards, and wooded roads all meet in a compact Rabun County setting.
