About Timmonsville

Timmonsville is a Florence County town founded in 1854 by John Morgan Timmons, a Baptist minister of French Huguenot ancestry. The town's historic side includes the Smith-Cannon House, built around 1897-1900 for Charles Aurelius Smith, a Timmonsville mayor who later served in statewide office. The modern map has a different signature: Honda manufactures all-terrain and side-by-side vehicles here, adding a factory line to an older agricultural town. Timmonsville also sits in the Florence metro, but it still reads as its own place—a nineteenth-century South Carolina town, a grand Queen Anne house, and a manufacturing plant woven into the local story.
