Titusville, NJ

Titusville is a CDP in Hopewell Township on the Delaware River, just north of Trenton and beside Washington Crossing State Park. The river, the old ferry crossing, and the road through the village made this a transportation place long before the surrounding landscape became a preserved historic setting. The Titusville Historic District was designated in 1983, and the village still has the tight cluster of houses, churches, shops, post office, and firehouse that gives a river settlement its everyday shape.

Washington's Christmas Night crossing of the Delaware happened at this stretch of river in 1776, and the New Jersey state park now interprets that history from the Titusville side. The Hopewell Valley Regional School District serves the township, while local preservation work keeps attention on older buildings, the canal-era landscape, and the river road. Titusville lives at the overlap of a working residential village, a school district, and the history of Washington's 1776 crossing. The river remains part of the daily view, alongside the canal road and village streets.
