Toms River, NJ

Toms River offers a mix of mainland suburbs, quiet waterfronts, and classic Jersey Shore beach life all within one town. The township stretches from busy commercial corridors on the mainland out to the barrier island at Ortley Beach. The community has a long history that dates back well before the American Revolution. In 1782, British forces burned the small colonial village during a notable coastal skirmish. For generations, the municipality was legally named Dover Township, even though everyone called the area Toms River after the historic settlement along the riverbank. Residents voted to officially change the town's name to Toms River in 2006. Today, that heritage is visible downtown, where historic monuments and riverfront pathways sit right alongside Ocean County's bustling courthouse and administration offices.

Daily conveniences are spread across major roadways like Route 37 and Hooper Avenue, making it easy to run errands, find great food, or commute. Healthcare is anchored by Community Medical Center, a major regional teaching hospital right in town. A short drive north of downtown, Ocean County College brings a lively campus feel to the area, hosting concerts and theater at the Grunin Center as well as stargazing shows at the Novins Planetarium.
