Toomsuba, MS

Toomsuba is an unincorporated census-designated place in eastern Lauderdale County, Mississippi, about 13 miles east of Meridian. The 2020 census counted 778 residents. U.S. Highways 80 and 11 pass through as the community’s main street, while Interstates 20 and 59 run along its southern edge. Toomsuba Creek gives the place its name; local history records an earlier settlement name, McLaurin or McLaurin Station, before the Toomsuba name took hold in 1866.

Bailey Lake and its surrounding homes add a residential and recreation layer, while the Toomsuba Water Association supplies a much larger service area than the CDP’s population alone suggests. South of the community, the Lacy Homestead preserves a 1902–03 farmhouse tied to the settlement of rural Lauderdale County and the area’s timber history. Nearby churches and volunteer services extend that local network along the road. Toomsuba is a highway-and-creek community where interstate traffic, old farm roads, a named waterway, and Meridian’s nearby services meet in one eastern Mississippi address.
