Topsfield is a census-designated place and historic town in Essex County, Massachusetts, situated in the North Shore region. The community of approximately 2,624 is historically notable as the home of five generations of the Smith family, ancestors of the Latter-day Saint movement founder Joseph Smith, and is bounded in part by the Ipswich River. Public education is administered by the Masconomet Regional School District.
