About Travilah

Travilah grew from a 19th-century crossroads at present-day Travilah and Glen roads in Montgomery County. Nearby farms supplied wheat to local flour mills, and the crossroads lay near the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal. A general store was operating by 1882, perhaps as early as the 1840s; the post office established in 1883 took the name of first postmaster Travilah Clagett. The CDP follows the north side of the Potomac River and includes portions of the river and C&O Canal. Greenbrier Local Park covers 25 acres, while the 876-acre Muddy Branch Stream Valley Park contains nine miles of trails.
